Case1: Hyperinsulinemia

In 20/4/2003, we were responsible for presenting an endocrinology clinical case as part of our physiology course, in the faculty of medicine, Kuwait. This page contains the power-point slides we made for that case.

I found that the case was taken from NMS's Physiology book (4th edition). The case is as follows:

A 30 year old woman is diagnosed with insulinoma on the basis of laboratory results that reveal hyperinsulinemia and hypoglycemia. However, she exhibits few symptoms of hypoglycemia despite the adenoma, even during her daily 3 minute runs of aerobic exercise.
  1. In general, what symptoms are associated with hypoglycemia?
  2. What conditions are characteristics of insulinoma?
  3. What accounts for the relative absence of symptoms?
